A stroke is caused by a blocked or bursted blood vessel in the brain. Without necessary blood and oxygen, the damaged areas begin to die and the brain can not work correctly resulting in symptoms such as:
If symptoms of a stroke occur, call 911 immediately. The faster treatment is received, the better for limitation of damage and quicker recovery.
TIA or “mini-stroke” occurs when blood flow to the brain is blocked or reduced. Symptoms of TIAs are similar to that of a stroke, but resolve after a short time; this is due to the blood flow being restored therefore causing the symptoms to resolve. With a stroke, the blood flow stays blocked resulting in permanent damage.
