A seizure is an episode of altered consciousness, loss of consciousness, abnormal movements, or behavior caused by abnormal electrical impulses in the brain. Brain cells communicate via electrical signals; a seizure occurs as a result of these electrical signals misfiring. The tendency to have recurrent seizures is called epilepsy. Seizures are diagnosed based on medical history of event and EEG monitoring. There are a multitude of agents that are effective in treating epilepsy.
